Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are the pair who gave the world "Bennifer" — a portmanteau Vanity Fair called the first of its kind — and then did the whole thing twice, two decades apart. Between an album dedicated to him, a Las Vegas wedding and a very public split, few couples have been documented this thoroughly.

The story so far

• July 2002: The two begin dating after meeting on the set of Gigli in December 2001; tabloid frenzy follows.
• November 2002: They get engaged, but postpone their September 14, 2003 wedding with four days' notice, blaming "excessive media attention."
• January 2004: The engagement is called off. Lopez later described it as her "first real heartbreak."
• April 2021: Reports say they're dating again; Lopez confirms it publicly that July.
• July 2022: They marry in Las Vegas on July 16, with a larger celebration at Affleck's Georgia home that summer.
• August 2024: Lopez files for divorce, citing April 26, 2024 as their separation date.
• Early 2025: The divorce is finalized.

Where things stand

They're divorced and apparently friendly: in October 2026 Affleck spoke of his "enormous respect and admiration" for Lopez and praised her acting, adding "I'm biased."
